“Mistaken For”

For decades, government counterinsurgency programs in the Philippines, one after another, have caused grave human rights violations to innocent civilians especially in the countryside. The incumbent Aquino administration’s Internal Peace and Security Plan “Bayanihan” (Cooperation) or Oplan Bayanihan is no different.

Oplan Bayanihan is but a replica of its predecessor, Oplan Bantay Laya, a counterinsurgency program designed by the U.S. government to quell all forms of resistance, armed or unarmed, by any means necessary.

Help stop Pres. Aquino’s Oplan Bayanihan.

Help stop human rights violations in the Philippines.

NDAA Vote Next Week: End Indefinite Detention!

We can put an end to a shocking assault on our civil liberties:  Last year’s National Defense Authorization Act included language that could allow the military to detain civilian suspects INDEFINITELY without charge or trial.

This year’s NDAA could come up for a vote as soon as next week and we have a prime opportunity to reverse this travesty of justice.

Congressmen Adam Smith and Justin Amash will put forth an amendment to make it clear that the military does not have the power to arrest and indefinitely detain civilians without charging or trying them.  Please urge your lawmakers to support their efforts and help us spread word far and wide.

N! Filipina American Torture, Abduction Survivor Melissa Roxas

Graphic footage of a man being tortured by police has sparked widespread public outrage in the Philippines and a government probe. The graphic cell phone video shows a man lying naked and bloody on the floor of an alleged police precinct in Manila. A plainclothes police officer is seen whipping him and tugging at a rope tied to the victim’s genitals while screams are heard. Over the past decade, torture, forced disappearance, political killings and imprisonment without trial have become commonplace in the Philippines.
